Did you see that some of the pools at the Olympic games are green? The once-blue water is now full of algae because they ran out of chemicals to process the water. Green water wouldn’t stop me from going for gold, but I do think those pools make a great illustration for life.

Just as water that is left untreated turns colors quickly, so a soul left unprotected will find a multitude of sin. Listen, Satan didn’t have to get up this morning to get you sin. He knows you and I will find plenty of messes to get into on our own. If we are not guarding ourselves from lusts and desires that are not good for us, we’ll gladly give in at the first weak moments.

The Bible says, “Protect your heart above all else, for from it flow the springs of life.” The waters of our life—our character, joy, relationship and work will be green with algae if we are not guarding them intentionally. Don’t turn gross like the olympic pools—stay clear, stay faithful, stay close to Christ.
