I have a nerdy confession to make: I love lists. In fact, I love making lists that are color-coded, categorized, and checked-off, one at a time. I have even tried to live my life according to a list that looks something like this:
One: God
Two: Family
Three: Church
Four: Friends… and the list goes on
However, I’m realizing I can’t live my life according to a numbered list. It is only a matter of days, or even moments, until the priorities of this list get out of whack and the first becomes the last. What the list says and what reality is rarely are the same.
As Christians, God is not meant to be a “part” of our lives—even if He is the first part. Christ is to be at the center of our activities, choices, emotions and decisions.
Consider this verse – Galatians 2:20 says, “I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me.”
Now think about your priorities. Instead of picturing a bulleted list, think of a cross with family, sports, work, friends, and whatever else, coming out of it like rays. Putting Christ at the center means giving everything in our lives to Him. It means praying for wisdom about what to spend time doing and who to spend time with. All things are subject to His Spirit’s leading; our every decision is made while under the authority of Christ while submitting to His wisdom. No formulas. No easy answers. So let’s take Christ off the list and put Him at the center of all we do.
