As you know, life is complex – it is full of so many different tasks, relationships and goals we have to be mindful of every single day. Maybe you have had days like me when you finally find your bed and as you lay there you wonder—did I do anything that really mattered today?

In the midst of the chaos, we must find the pause button. If we don’t find the peace Christ offers in the midst of our crazy lives, then we are missing one of the greatest gifts – not to mention one of the greatest commandments.

“So then, there remains a Sabbath rest for the people of God, for whoever has entered God’s rest has also rested from his works as God did from his. Let us therefore strive to enter that rest, so that no one may fall by the same sort of disobedience.”
(Hebrews 4:9-11 ESV)

This passage in Hebrews is not only offering us rest, but also commanding us to rest. This passage prescribes rest to ensure that we do not harden our hearts. When we rest – meaning that we slow down and are calm – then we will begin to hear the voice of God. A great line to underline in your Bible is verse 10, “If anyone who enters God’s rest also rests from his work, just as God did from His.” If God rested, don’t you think you could use rest all the more? Are you greater than God that you don’t need to rest?

Don’t get too busy trying to DO things for God. Just be with Him. Allow there to be times in your days, days in your week, and weeks in your years, when you focus on having a season of rest so that you may be refreshed and hear the voice of our God.

Take a moment right now to jot down the the answers to the following questions:

  • What are the things that cause you to be too busy to rest?
  • When and where will you enjoy your next period of rest with the Lord?

Bottom Line: Rest in the Lord brings refreshment for your soul!
