In An effort to lose my “Pastor pooch” or my “Bible-Belly-Bump” (a.k.a my bulging stomach), I’ve decided to cut back on the carbs. My wife and I are holding each other accountable to eat healthier.
Yet, I gotta be honest – I do miss my Saturday morning waffles. I feel like Donkey on the movie Shrek who was attracted to a steamy pile of waffles in the middle of the forest (random, I know). With Donkey’s first lick of syrup, he soon found that stack of waffles was nothing more than bait to a highly technical ogre-built-stump-trap (he should have know better).
The main reason I decided to be careful of what I eat for a while was not only because of my waistline, but because I knew I was not honoring God with the way I was caring for my body. My main problem is that I don’t eat enough – I get so busy that I will slam down some coffee and carbs in the morning (but most of the time, just coffee), catch lunch if I’m lucky, maybe get dinner if I don’t have any meetings – and then eat whatever I can find before bed (because I was starving because I didn’t eat all day).
You must eat to live. You must eat to lead.
I’ve learned the hard way that you can’t lead if you don’t eat. Food, and healthy food for that matter, gives me the energy and stability of mind to lead well. When I don’t eat food, or the right food, I get cranky, groggy, and thoroughly unproductive. It is then that I find myself in the middle of an ogre trap.
Take care of your body and glorify the Lord in doing so.
How do you find time to eat properly and take care of your body?
