From preachers to construction workers, we all have moments where we hate our job, but the single most important job as Christians is the one where we do His work. Being a follower of Christ is a spiritual commitment, one that requires discipline, loyalty, and an eagerness to please God.
What does it mean to “please God” and how can you avoid hating your spiritual job?
In this episode, I share with you what it means to please Him, what you need to remember to stay on your spiritual path, and how to avoid hating your job. The tips shared today come from scripture, seasoned with my personal life experiences and how the two have blended to teach me several valuable life lessons.

9 Tips to Please God and Avoid Hating Your Job
1.) Speak the Truth
- Truth without love is brutality. Love without truth is hypocrisy.
- Col 3:19 – “Do not lie to one another, seeing that you have put off the old self with its practices.”
2.) Be Angry Correctly
- Check the source of your anger
- Do not brood in anger.
3.) Avoid the Devil
- Learn Satan’s plays.
- Learn how to defend yourself against Satan’s attacks.
4.) Encourage Honest Work
- Demonstrate diligence, hard work, and give freely.
- Stop negative behavior. Start positive.
5.) Watch Your Mouth
- Be mindful of when it is appropriate to say thanks, apologize, and rebuke. Learn when to listen and when to preach.
6.) Play Nice with Others
- Bitterness and resentment are the roots of many other sins. They are not compatible with the life of love.
7.) Lead Others in the Same Way He Leads You
- Remember the grace God gave you – and give it to others.
- Remember who your master is, and the role you play.
8.) Don’t Discard Your Disciplines
- Pursue holiness.
- God Expects our Discipline. Luke 9:23 – “And he said to all, ‘If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.’”
- Jesus not only expects disciplines from us. He modeled them for us.
9.) Don’t Disappoint God
- Disappointing God comes from being rebellious and obstinate to the Holy Spirit and Christ followers.
Things to Consider:
- Set boundaries. You are an employee, not a slave.
- Be realistic with your goals.
- Remember – less is more.
- Find ways to pull through the hard times. Grab a good book, take a relaxing bath, have a cup of coffee, spend time with your family.
- Never stop learning. Think of every opportunity Christ used to teach.
- Camp out in the place where passion and aptitude meet.
- Be like Christ.
